Invisible text in the script editor/expression editor

For the last year I've had an issue with my script editor wherein its text is invisible. I've tried changing the font colors and the window colors but it doesn't seem to work. It originally occurred on my Maya 2012 (student) but carried over to my Maya 2013. I've tried deleting my preferences and creating new default ones but it doesn't seem to fix it and I've already reinstalled the entire program. I can copy paste into and out of the script editor but I can't see the text in maya at all, just the highlight color. The same thing occurs in my expression editor.
