The Yinxian Timber pagoda, established in the Temple of Buddha"s Palace, which is located to the northwest of Yingxian County, is popularly called The Yingxian Timber Pagoda. Built in 1056 A.D., and being 67.31 metres in height and 30 metres in diameter, it looks magnificent and is the existing largest and most ancient timber pagoda in China. It is one of the national treasures of ancient Chinese architecture for the superior constructional skill which is rarely seen all over the world, and has been appointed, since 1961, by the State Council, as one of the key historical relics under protection by the State.
the Pagoda is unique in design and structure. the frame, with and octagonal cross section, is completely made of wooden parts which are solidly linked by the innumerable mortises and tenons on a complicated system of brackets, totaling as many as 54 kinds, and other supporters. Set on a 3-metre-high and 2-layered and 6-eaved. In fact, it is a 9storeyed building with mezzanines. The octagonal precipitous roof is topped by an iron cone 11 metres in height, which looks harmonious to the body of the Pagoda.
Wooden stairs link up various floors. On the second floor and upwards, there are outside railings, where visitors can look into the distance.
There is amagnificent-high golden statue of Sakyamuni in the centre of the ground floor. Statues can be found in every storey, and frescoes fill the inner walls of the ground floor. All these represent the artistic level of the Liao Dynasty.
