Hi everyone,

I would like to ask you some questions. I have a shot of myself, with some black markers on my face. I'm moving my head but the camera is fixed. What I want is to track my face then export to maya to create something....

=> So, Does Nuke allow to track this kind of shot ?
Cuz the point of camera tracker is to save real camera moves into a virtual camera whereas in my case, my camera doesnt move.
Of course, I tried before asking and the problem is the "trackfeature" doesnt take care of my face...it ignores the markers and only tracks the wall behind me -_-

Is there a way to success this effect without PFtrack or SynthEye but with Nuke or maybe Boujou ??
=> Indeed, i also tried with Boujou, but how to create a "Camera Solve" from Targets Trackes ? (I mean without track features done)

Well, thanks a lot for answering and sorry for my english. I hope this is enough comprehensible.

I am afraid not, Nuke tracker is not yet tracking objects unless 6.2 changed that as i haven't tried this version.
the best best way is pftrack or sytheye, they are both used on voldemort'd nose in harry potter for exemple.
Don't look for an easy way like a camera solve. In Pftrack for exemple you need to import your face low model matching your face shoot.
You would use the Pftrack tools to track the motion (often need to manualy help it). You hace often to tweek the result in maya for a perfect match.
don't be afraid to do everything manualy if you don't have pftrack. Rotoanim is very common in big studios, it takes time but you animate your cg face in maya with the footage in background.

Depending on what you want to do. If you just want to add a third eye you don't need a 3d face tracking, try stabilising your picture with the tracking markers on your face, 2 points gives often good results... it is more easy to adjust little tweeks like that and adjust 2d moves. then you comp or paint what you need and reverse matchmove back inside its alpha so you can comp this tracked little patch on your original plate without bluring the whole picture.
does that make any sense  ?
cheers

First of all, thank you very much.

Well, I didnt have thought to animate my cg face in maya with footage in background. But yeah it's very long and i'm afraid to get a jerky track

By the way, to give you more information, i dont want to make a third-eye but i would like to try something more difficult based on Iron Man's armor. Wanna create a mechanical armor which unfolds (correct verb ? :D) to finally recover all my head.

Well PFtrack or SythEye look like the best way.

Thanks again

You can track faces, though in a limited way. Just garbage roto the face so you matte out the background. You will get a moving camera which roughly matches the face.  Depending how much the jaw and other features move will depend on how good the track works.  For full on jaw and mouth movement your best to go with pftrack, syntheyes or 3de.

We used to do this in the old days before object tracking existed in camera trackers.
