Layer Data cannot be attached

Hello Uiron! Currently having an issue with your otherwise very promising plugin. I'm new to Maya, so I may be misunderstanding something, but I seem to be unable to "initialize skinning layers" with the error that Layer data cannot be attached to it, even when I try with simple polygonal geometry.

Any help?

    Model has to be ready for skin weight painting. That is, you set your rig as usual - create joints, controls, bind smooth skin to mesh, but instead of using maya's "paint skin weights" tool, open ngSkinTools window and use it instead.
