Replacing NURBS chain with single Polygon(or Nurbs) obect

Submitted by: timbers timbers
Dear Valerio, I just emailed you creepily not realizing that there was a support forum here, so sorry for the double contact.

The gist of the problem is that I need to replace the chain NURBS geometries generated by your script with a single polygon object smoothly bound to the hair system, something that behaves more like a rope that can be controlled from both ends.

I have already tried what you suggested in terms of the nurbs to polygon command, then trying to substitute the geometries, but I cant quite figure it out.

What I am attempting to do is dynamically control a rope/single object/hair from both ends. So far I have achieved this by using the IK Spline Handle tool with a dynamic curve, then giving transform constrains to each end of the the hair, then tweaking the dynamics. (I followed this tutorial
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey5bLJUeWAg&list=PLE4C8F8093A4C202F&index=2though I am using Maya 2013) This works fairly well, but is somewhat of a problem because I need to link multiple hairs end to end and the stretchiness becomes an issue becasue this is for an architectural project/animation.

I know you offered this amazing script for free and that my problem is probably beyond what this script was designed for, but if you could help I would definitely be willing to donate to your cause. Thank you much!

Hi Michael, thanks for your interest in my script. I'm not sure at 100% on what you are trying to achieve, anyway I have 2 solutions for you: You can link the rope to the dynamic chain by using Maya wrap deformer. To do that, follow the steps below: 1. Create the curve, the rope and, by using my script, generate the chain; 2. In dynamic chain settings, switch "Geometry version" to "Proxy" and "Dynamics solver" to "Hair System"; 3. Select all the proxy chain parts, then in Polygons menu click MESH->COMBINE; 4. Make sure that the new geometry still follows the chain rig; 5. Select the new proxy chain and the rope, then in Animation menu click CREATE DEFORMERS->WRAP. 6. You can activate "exclusive bind" in wrap settings to obtain faster performance (but less precision). Doing this you should obtain the same result of the sample scene I attached here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9LcsggtBivRWjcwM290M2FTTEU/edit Alternatively I have prepared just for you a script that transforms a dynamic chain (created with my script) into a dynamic joint chain.
