Q/A

Is there a trick to the IK/FK controls?

Date:05/26/2015
Submitted by: David Fliesen David Fliesen
I keep running into problems with the foot controls when I switch FK/IK to 0.  I can spread the feet one time, but when I go back to lift a leg up for a walkcycle, the bones won't follow the foot controller.   Anyone else having this problem?   I'm using trex2 in Maya 2015 on a Mac for an assignment at the Art Institute. Please let me know if there is maybe a trick with getting the legs to follow the controller. I've tried both importing and referencing the rig in Maya, but get the same issue either way.

I uploaded a newer version with the joints etc. hidden. So, less chance the rig getting broken

Hey David So far, I haven't heard of any problems like you're having with the rig. BUT, I think that maybe you inadvertently set a keyframe(s) on some of the leg joints or the geometry itself. Select the feet geometry to check if you set any keyframes. If you see green color in the channel box that shows that there is a key frame blocking a constraint. Don't set keys on anything but the controls.

Thank you, Joel. That fixed it. I didn't think I had keyed any joints. Even went back to the original version of the rig when I had problems, but maybe I missed something. The new rig you uploaded works great. I really appreciate the help.

You're welcome! I am happy to help. Thank you too, that was something I should have done in the first place.
