I don't know what happened there but I just tested on Maya 2014 and it's fine.
I can't tell you what is going on unless you give me some more detailed information like the full exception traceback. For now I could only give couple suggestions:
1. The IOError means something is wrong about the file handling of Maya. You can try relaunching Maya or move the script to other python script path
2. You can just copy the code to Maya's script editor and run the code directly.
