Not sure if it'll be possible or not, but It could be helpfull also to have a tooltip or a label on the key frame.

if you're using Maya 2014, you can use the new grease pencil tool to "flag" your keyframes. There is also Chris Zurbrigg Blue Pencil plugin (https://zurbrigg.com/blue-pencil) that is similar to the maya grease pencil tool but looks better! And available with maya 2014, 2013, ...
I havn't try the Blue Pencil plugin or the maya grease pencil but you could definitely do what you want with them.
