Feature Request

Basic Instructions, Replace with nothing

Status:pending
Date:03/18/2014
Submitted by:Sir Andacar Sir Andacar
I have had a lot of success using Ninja Rename to fix some problems with several of my models. I have two requests. First, a basic description of its features and functions would be a big help. Second, as far as I can tell there appears to be no way to select a list of names and then replace some string with nothing. I need to be able to do this because when you import models into a Maya scene the new objects come in with the old scene name. It would be nice if you could select all nodes in a scene and then replace all instances of something with nothing (Example: A lot of files have the prefix Scene32: and you can remove all instances of that string with no replacement). Thanks!

hey Sir Andacar, there is a way to change parts of a name to nothing. the replace name feature does this. first select the objects you want to rename. in the Replace Field.. just type the word(s) you want to replace. in the With Field.. leave it blank and click on [Replace Name]. This however wont work with Name spaces. if you set your import settings to not use name space but to use filename as a prefix, Ninja Rename will rename this correctly. I am planning on adding in a remove name space feature sometime in the future. I will try to get a help page on the features of the rename script sometime in the future too. Brian

Thanks for the reply Brian. I'll give those a try. I am a technical writer by trade, and if you want some help on that let me know.

I had an issue where I renamed everything in a rig and everything that was invisible became visible, is there a way to keep measurements and bones hidden and name changed? Thanks, awesome script though!
