This macro is based on Steve Wright's Digital Compositing for Film and Video.

When creating B&W mattes there can be stray pixels in both the white and the black regions of the matte that are hard to see, but will suddenly become very visible in the composite.

This macro reveals those pesky pixels, so you can see where to refine the matte. It's a simple lookup curve, but instead of typing expressions, the only thing you have to do is to connect your input image.

Under the setup subtree the lowValue and highValue sliders are for setting brightness of the wrong near black (or near white) pixels, and tweaking the borders will show you more or less of them.
