It's a great script!! Here you ahve the newer maya compability, tested on maya 2014 osx 10.8.4. Looks like the author has no time for posting the update version. I wrote an email to him and he responded that a friend of him updated the script for him. I hope he wan't be angry with me for sharing it with You:
https://speedy.sh/3Haku/HDL-Hierarchic-DisplayLayer-Manager.zip
https://www.sendspace.com/file/8027w7

Any chance you could update this script to also work with render and animation layers in Maya 2009? UI integration would also be fantastic. Otherwise I love this script!

it works in 2009. source the script and call the function... an integration into the maya ui, like ya-selectionManager would be AWESOME. thanks for this.

I am waiting for a bit of spare time to check (and eventually update) HDL for Maya 2009. UI integration in Maya should be in the next main release. Keep in touch and thanks for feedback! Vincenzo

Nice one.In ensemble with a Layer bookmarks saved me a lot of time by current project. Please add reordering possibility and embed it in maya UI!
